Verdict

ePremium has a high rating for customer satisfaction but low scores for financial stability and affordability. Additionally, the company provides limited tools and features on its website and has no mobile app. Although it offers a unique coverage in all of its renters insurance policies and five additional coverages that may benefit renters, it only provides one possible discount.

Does ePremium Have Good Customer Service?

The best renters insurance company should have a good reputation for customer service. The insurer you select should be capable of providing superior support during times of need and process valid claims on time.

For renters insurance, ePremium has a low overall MoneyGeek rating. Although J.D. Power rates it highly for customer satisfaction, its AM Best financial stability and MoneyGeek affordability scores are low. The company’s customer complaint index from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is also slightly higher than the national median.

Customer Satisfaction Rating

Customer satisfaction ratings from J.D. Power are based on a company's interaction with customers, policy offers, pricing, billing procedure, policy information and claims. MoneyGeek gives ePremium a high customer satisfaction rating of 4.89 out of five based on ratings from J.D. Power.

NAIC scores compare the company's complaint data to that of its competitors. ePremium's NAIC complaint score of 1.09 is above the national median of 1.00, indicating the company received about 9% more complaints than the typical insurer.

Financial Stability Rating

Insurers' financial stability is verified by AM Best, which assigns them a credit rating from one of the seven rating categories. ePremium received an A- rating from AM Best, indicating that the company has the financial wherewithal to meet its insurance commitments, even though it did not receive AM Best’s top rating.

How Much Does ePremium Renters Insurance Cost?

The cost of renters insurance is influenced by a variety of factors. One of these factors is your insurance provider. On average, ePremium renters insurance for a $20,000 policy costs $258 per year or approximately $22 per month. • The cost of renters insurance is highly dependent on the amount of coverage selected. That said, make sure you are not insuring too much or too little. A smart place to begin is with a coverage of $20,000. However, it is best if you assess the right amount of insurance coverage you need. MoneyGeek's personal property calculator may help you determine the amount of coverage you require based on the value of the personal items you wish to insure.

    Personal Property Coverage Calculator

When figuring out how much renters insurance you need, experts recommend the standard $100,000 in liability insurance and enough personal property protection to cover your possessions. Use MoneyGeek's calculator to estimate the value of your possessions so you know how much personal property coverage to buy.

    MONEYGEEK EXPERT TIP

Knowing the worth of your personal belongings will assist you in determining the amount of insurance you require. This will prevent you from purchasing excess coverage, thus saving you money. Similarly, you would not want an insurance policy that provides coverage insufficient to meet your needs.

    What Discounts Does ePremium Offer?

In comparison to the industry average of five available discounts, ePremium only offers one for renters insurance. Renters who have insurance through ePremium can qualify for an annual payment discount. You can save money by paying in full and avoiding installment fees.

Except for paying in full, there aren't many opportunities to save money with ePremium renters insurance.

Which Coverage Types Does ePremium Offer?

The amount of coverage also affects the ePremium renters insurance quote. Renters insurance providers have an average of seven add-on coverage options. ePremium renters insurance policies include up to six coverages in addition to the standard ones.

Two of these coverages (bed bug remediation and pet damage liability) are included in all policies, and the bed bug remediation coverage is a unique offering. Additionally, the insurer provides coverage for earthquakes, water backup, scheduled personal property and identity theft as endorsements.

MoneyGeek’s ePremium renters insurance review breaks down each of the six additional coverage options available with an ePremium renters insurance policy in the section below.

    1
    Identity Theft

The identity theft coverage provided by ePremium reimburses you for expenses incurred as a direct result of identity fraud up to a maximum of $5,000. This option is available for an additional $12 per year.

    2
    Water Backup

Water or sewer backup coverage from ePremium costs an additional $12 per year, and pays for damage to your personal property caused by water backup through sewers or drains.

    3
    Pet Damage Liability Coverage

Pet damage liability coverage is available at no additional cost in all ePremium renters insurance policies. It covers you against damage in your rental home caused by your pet.

    4
    Bed Bug Remediation Coverage

This unique coverage covers damages caused by infestations of bed bugs. It is also included in all policies at no extra cost.

    5
    Earthquake

This is an optional coverage with a $750 deductible if purchased. It protects your personal property against damage caused by an earthquake. Note that this endorsement is only offered in California.

    6
    Scheduled Personal Property

This optional coverage pays for damages incurred as a result of lost or stolen high-value items.

When shopping for renters insurance, it's critical to make sure that you're getting all of the regular coverages that are generally offered by insurance companies. Personal property, personal liability, medical payments and additional living expenses coverage are some of the commonly offered options.

Additional coverage against flood, earthquake and insect damage may also be necessary, depending on your specific situation. Some of these may not be available with all insurers and are rarely offered, so make sure you read the small print before you buy a plan.

What Online Renters Insurance Tools Does ePremium Offer?

The availability of various online tools and features add to an enhanced customer experience. ePremium, however, only offers a few options on its website. You can get a personalized quote for free using the website's quote tool. Using the online links, you can also pay your bills, change your address or cancel the policy. That said, there's no mobile app for managing your account while on the go.
