MoneyGeek respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect when you visit moneygeek.com, how we use it, who receives it and the choices you have.

If you have a question this policy doesn't answer, email us at privacy@moneygeek.com or write to us at the address in the Contact section below.

Information We Collect

We collect two kinds of information: what you give us and what your browser sends us automatically.

From you. When you fill out a quote form or contact request, you provide details such as your name, email address, phone number, address, ZIP code and date of birth. For auto insurance specifically, this includes your vehicle's make, model, year and vehicle identification number (VIN), your driving history including any tickets or DUI status, your insured status and your driver's license number.

If you registered for an account during an earlier version of our auto insurance tool, we hold the name, email address and state you provided at signup.

From your browser. When you visit the site, our servers and our analytics partners receive standard web data: IP address, device type, browser version, operating system, pages viewed, time on page and similar usage signals. We collect this data using cookies, pixels, tags and similar technologies.

We don't knowingly collect information from children under 16. The site is intended for adults. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, email privacy@moneygeek.com and we'll delete it.

Sensitive Information

Some of what you give us during an auto insurance quote counts as sensitive under state privacy laws: including ticket or DUI status. We collect this information for one reason, to route your quote request to the partners you asked to hear from, and we use it only for that.

We don't use sensitive information to build profiles about you, to infer characteristics beyond what your quote requires or for advertising. If you live in a state that gives you the right to limit how we use sensitive information, you can exercise it by emailing privacy@moneygeek.com with the subject line "Limit Sensitive Information." We already hold our use of this information to fulfilling your quote request, so there's nothing more for you to restrict.

We recommend you only enter what a quote actually asks for. Leave out extra sensitive details that aren't requested.

How We Use Your Information

We use what we collect to:

  • Respond to your quote requests and route them to the partners you asked to hear from
  • Provide the tools, calculators and content you came to the site for
  • Send service messages, replies to your questions and newsletter content you've signed up for
  • Measure how visitors use the site so we can improve it
  • Protect the site from fraud, abuse and security threats
  • Meet legal and regulatory obligations

We do not use your information to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

How We Share Your Information

Quote and lead-form partners. When you submit a quote request, we transmit the information you entered to a lead aggregator and, in some flows, directly to insurance carriers, licensed agents or other comparison partners as you direct. Our primary auto insurance partner is QuinStreet. Once a partner receives your information, that partner's privacy policy governs how they use it. We don't receive your quote details back from these partners.

Service providers. We use outside companies to run parts of our operation: hosting, analytics, email delivery and customer support tooling. These companies handle your information under written contracts that limit them to using it on our behalf.

Legal and safety disclosures. We disclose information when required by law (such as a valid subpoena or court order) and when we believe disclosure is necessary to investigate fraud, protect someone's safety or defend our legal rights.

Acquisitions and business changes. If MoneyGeek.com is acquired, merged or sold, your information may be transferred to the successor entity as part of the transaction. You'll have the right to opt out of further use of your information at that time using the mechanism described in "Your Privacy Choices and Rights" below.

What we don't do. We don't sell your personal information. We don't rent our email lists. We don't share your information with outside companies for their own promotional use.

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, our transmission of your information to a lead partner at your direction is not a "sale" or "share" because you intentionally instructed us to disclose it for the purpose of receiving a quote. (See Cal. Civ. Code §1798.140(ah)(2)(A).)

Our Use of Artificial Intelligence

We use AI and machine learning tools to help us produce and improve the content, tools and calculators on the site, to analyze how the site is used and to detect fraud and abuse.

We do not use the personal information you submit through quote forms or contact requests to train AI models.

We don't use AI to make automated decisions that produce legal or similar effects about you. Nothing our AI tools generate approves, denies or sets the price of any financial or insurance product. Any AI-assisted content on the site is for general information and isn't a substitute for advice from a licensed professional.

Cookies and Tracking

Our site uses cookies and similar technologies (pixels, tags, local storage and web beacons) for several purposes:

  • Strictly necessary functions like session management and security
  • Performance and analytics so we can see which pages people use and where the site breaks
  • Advertising attribution and partner tracking
  • Preferences so the site remembers your settings

We use Google Analytics 4, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, Microsoft Clarity, PostHog, Vercel Speed Insights, Axiom and Everflow as our primary analytics and measurement tools.

Microsoft Clarity. We partner with Microsoft Clarity and Microsoft Advertising to capture how you use and interact with our website through behavioral metrics, heatmaps and session replay. We use this information for site optimization, fraud and security purposes, and advertising. Microsoft Clarity captures data using first and third-party cookies and similar tracking technologies. For more information about how Microsoft collects and uses your data, visit the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

If you'd prefer that Microsoft Clarity not record your session, you can email privacy@moneygeek.com with the subject line "Opt Out of Session Recording" and we'll exclude your IP address from Clarity going forward. You can also block Clarity directly in your browser by disabling third-party cookies or using a tracking-blocker extension.

If you've disabled cookies in your browser, parts of the site may not work as expected.

How We Protect Your Information

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect the information you give us. Connections to our site are encrypted in transit. Access to personal information is limited to the people and systems that need it. We review our security practices as our tools and risks change.

No website or internet transmission is ever completely secure. We can't promise your information will never be accessed in a way we didn't intend. What we can promise is that we work to prevent it and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.

If you have a security concern or believe your information has been compromised, email us at privacy@moneygeek.com.

Your Privacy Choices and Rights

You have the following rights over the information we hold about you:

  • The right to know. Request a copy of the information we've collected, how we use it and who we share it with.
  • The right to delete. Request that we delete the information we hold about you. We may keep records we need to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes or prevent fraud.
  • The right to correct. Request that we fix information you believe is inaccurate.
  • The right to opt out of future sales or sharing. Even though we don't sell your information, you can instruct us to stop sharing it with our lead partners going forward. Email privacy@moneygeek.com with the subject line "Opt Out" and we'll honor your request for any information collected after we receive it. (We can't recall information already transmitted.)
  • The right to non-discrimination. We won't deny you service, charge you a different price or give you a worse experience because you exercised any of these rights.

How to make a request. Email privacy@moneygeek.com or write to us at the address in the Contact section. We'll acknowledge your request within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. If we need more time, we'll tell you why and when to expect a response.

Verifying your identity. We'll ask you to confirm details before acting on a request to make sure someone else isn't asking for your information. If you submit through an authorized agent, we'll ask the agent for written proof of your authorization.

Global Privacy Control. Some browsers and extensions let you send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal that tells sites you want to opt out of sales and sharing. We treat a GPC signal as a valid opt-out request and apply it to the browser that sends it.

Why We're Allowed to Use Your Information. We collect and use your information for clear reasons: to do what you asked us to do, such as routing a quote; because you've given us permission, such as signing up for a newsletter; because we have a legitimate business need, such as measuring and securing the site; or because the law requires it.

Where Your Information Is Handled. We're based in the United States and we process your information here. Some of the service providers we rely on may process information in other countries where they or their own providers run operations. When that happens, we take steps to keep your information protected to the standards described in this policy.

Supplemental Notice to Residents of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah and Virginia

If you live in one of the states above, you have additional rights under your state's privacy law. These include all the rights listed above plus, depending on your state, the right to appeal a decision we make about your privacy request to your state attorney general.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@moneygeek.com or write to us at the address in the Contact section. We'll respond within the timelines required by your state law.

Additional disclosures for California residents. California residents have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act. As described in "How We Share Your Information" above, our transmission of your information to a lead partner at your direction is not a "sale" or "share" under §1798.140(ah)(2)(A). We don't otherwise sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

In the past 12 months, we've collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (name, email, phone, address), commercial information (services you've requested), internet activity (browsing data, page views), geolocation data (general location from IP), professional information (only when voluntarily submitted) and inferences drawn from the above to understand your preferences. We've shared identifiers, commercial information and the contents of your quote request with the lead partners you asked us to share them with. We've not sold any personal information.

Additional disclosures for Colorado residents. Colorado residents may instruct us not to use their personal information for targeted advertising. As described above, we don't run targeted advertising campaigns using your personal information. To confirm your preference is on file, email privacy@moneygeek.com.

Additional disclosures for Nevada residents. Nevada residents have a specific right to opt out of the sale of certain personal information. We don't sell personal information as defined under Nevada law. To confirm your preference is on file, email privacy@moneygeek.com.

How Long We Keep Your Information

We delete personal information when we no longer need it for the purpose you gave it to us. Different categories have different retention periods.

  • Quote and lead-form submissions: 6 months from the date of submission.
  • Website usage and analytics data: 14 months in identifiable form. We retain aggregated and anonymized data (data that can no longer be linked to you) for longer periods to inform site improvements and internal research.
  • Account information for users who registered with our legacy auto insurance tool: retained until you request deletion.
  • Communications and support records: 24 months from the date of the communication.

When the retention period ends, we delete the information or de-identify it so it can no longer be linked to you. The deletion requirement above doesn't apply to data we've already aggregated or anonymized.

Links to Other Sites

MoneyGeek.com links to other websites, including those of our partners. Those sites have their own privacy policies. We don't control them and aren't responsible for what they do with information you give them. Read their policies before submitting anything.

Changes to This Policy

We update this policy when our practices change, when new laws require it or when we find language that needs to be clearer.

When we make a material change, we'll post the updated policy here, update the "Last updated" date at the top and notify you through a banner on the site.
