Delaware's minimum coverage is more comprehensive than most states. Four mandatory coverages are required: 25/50 bodily injury liability ($25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident), $10,000 property damage liability, $15,000/$30,000 PIP (personal injury protection, which pays for the driver's own medical costs regardless of fault), and $25,000/$50,000 uninsured motorist coverage. Delaware is a modified no-fault state, where PIP pays for the driver's medical bills immediately after an accident without waiting for fault to be determined. PIP cannot be waived.

Full coverage (100/300/100 liability limits, comprehensive, collision, and a $1,000 deductible) adds higher liability limits, collision coverage and comprehensive coverage. Delaware's $10,000 property damage minimum is especially low compared to the cost of a modern vehicle. A single accident involving a newer SUV or truck can easily exceed that limit, leaving the driver personally liable for the remaining costs.
