Cheapest Minimum and Full Coverage Car Insurance in Washington

GEICO is cheapest for full coverage in Washington at $101 a month; State Farm is cheapest for minimum coverage at $37 a month. The gap from GEICO ($101 a month) to Allstate ($134 a month), the most expensive provider in the dataset, is $33 a month ($396 a year), one of the narrowest full coverage gaps in this analysis. That narrow range means provider selection matters less here than in most states. Review the best car insurance in Washington to see provider ratings and options across coverage types.

Washington requires 25/50/10 minimum liability coverage. The state uses an at-fault system with no mandatory PIP or UM/UIM. Washington's $10,000 property damage minimum is among the lowest available and will not cover most modern vehicle repairs. Drivers should consider adding UM/UIM coverage even though state law does not require it.

How to Get the Cheapest Car Insurance in Washington

These are eight strategies for lowering car insurance costs in Washington. A driver who chooses American Family ($188 a month) over Farmers ($291 a month) saves $1,236 a year for identical full coverage, a gap that only shows up when comparing car insurance quotes across carriers. The cheapest car insurance companies nationally differ from Washington's most affordable options, where Pemco undercuts every major carrier on family policies from age 16 to 25.

  1. 1
Get a Pemco Quote for Family Policies

Pemco is the cheapest insurer for teen drivers in Washington at every age from 16 to 25, and it prices male teens lower than female teens, the opposite of most states. Shoppers who only check major national carriers will miss Pemco's regional pricing advantage.

  2. 2
American Family for Young Drivers on a Standalone Policy

American Family is the cheapest option for young drivers on a standalone policy at $188 a month, $41 a month less than State Farm and Travelers at the same driver profile. Choosing American Family over those carriers saves roughly $492 a year.

  3. 3
Use American Family or State Farm After Violations

American Family and State Farm both price at $115 a month for drivers with a speeding ticket or DUI on record, making them the cheapest options in Washington for drivers with violations. Checking both carriers after any record event is worth the extra quote.

  4. 4
National General for Drivers With Bad Credit

National General is the cheapest insurer for Washington drivers with bad credit at $148 a month. It is a subsidiary of Allstate and is not always top of mind when shopping after a credit event, so requesting a direct quote is recommended.

  5. 5
    Note Washington's Narrow Market Spread

Most providers in Washington are competitive with one another, so the savings gap between carriers is narrower than in many other states. Reviewing how much car insurance you need helps avoid paying for coverage beyond your actual risk profile.

  6. 6
No Mandatory UM/UIM Coverage: Consider Adding It

Washington does not require uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, but uninsured driver rates vary by region across the state. Adding UM/UIM to a Washington policy provides meaningful financial protection at relatively low additional cost.

  7. 7
    Bundle Home and Auto Policies

Bundling home and auto insurance with the same carrier in Washington typically reduces premiums on both policies. Most major insurers operating in Washington offer a multi-policy discount that applies at the time of quoting.

  8. 8
    Re-Shop After Moving Within Washington

Average monthly car insurance costs in Kent ($137 a month) and Spokane Valley ($88 a month) differ by $49 a month, or roughly $588 a year. Any move from the Seattle metro area to eastern Washington warrants an immediate re-quote to capture the lower regional rate.

MoneyGeek analyzed rates from 11 providers in Washington. Washington is an at-fault state with minimum coverage requirements of 25/50/10, meaning $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident, and $10,000 in property damage liability. Washington does not mandate personal injury protection (PIP) or uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage.

Pemco is a regional Pacific Northwest insurer. California Casualty is a specialty insurer serving educators, law enforcement, and firefighters. National General is a subsidiary of Allstate.

Gender is a rating factor in Washington. Credit scoring is currently allowed as a rating factor (a temporary COVID-era ban was halted by courts). SB 5589 passed the Washington State Senate in 2025, requiring a study of credit-based insurance scoring with recommendations due in fall 2026. American Family's rate for texting violations ($99/month) appears to equal or fall below its standard adult full coverage rate and has been flagged for source verification against Quadrant data prior to publication. Data were sourced from Quadrant Information Services.

Rates updated April 2026.
