Methodology

MoneyGeek assessed the best insurers in San Antonio, Texas, by gathering estimates and data from relevant insurance companies. We used ratings from reputable organizations, including AM Best, J.D. Power and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

Our aggregate MoneyGeek score is based on a five-point scale for each category and a 100-point scale for the total score. We altered the weightings for each category as follows:

  • Affordability (70%): MoneyGeek compared the average rates charged by San Antonio-based insurers to determine the most affordable. The cheapest insurer in San Antonio received a perfect score.
  • Customer and claims satisfaction (20%): MoneyGeek studied J.D. Power polls to determine customer satisfaction with each insurance company in terms of service and claims. We gave each sub-category a 10% weighting.
  • Financial stability (10%): MoneyGeek used AM Best ratings to determine an insurance company's ability to meet its financial commitments despite economic fluctuations.

We applied a five-point scale to each category and a 100-point scale to the total score. We generated the affordability score by modifying many factors, including age, driving record and coverage levels, as needed to target specific driver profiles.

All prices, with the exception of the best affordable minimum coverage category, represent the average premiums for a full coverage policy with the following limits:

  • $100,000 bodily injury liability per person
  • $300,000 bodily injury liability per accident
  • $100,000 property damage liability.
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible
