Methodology
Car insurance companies were ranked by MoneyGeek based on quotes from Dallas providers and ratings from industry experts such as J.D. Power, AM Best and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
To calculate the best car insurance in Dallas, Texas, for various driver profiles, MoneyGeek applied the following weights to each assessment criteria:
- Affordability (70%): MoneyGeek compiled a list of typical rates from Dallas insurers and graded them according to the cost of their policies. The provider with the lowest rate in the city received a perfect score of five out of five.
- Customer satisfaction and claims satisfaction (20%): MoneyGeek looked through J.D. Power polls to determine how happy consumers were with the service and claims of each insurance carrier. A 10% weighting was assigned to each sub-category.
- Financial stability (10%): MoneyGeek evaluated an insurance company's ability to satisfy financial obligations despite economic instability using AM Best ratings.
Each region was given a five-point value and the entire result was given a 100-point scale. To calculate the overall affordability score, we employed a range of characteristics, including age, driving record and coverage levels, which were changed as needed to focus on different driver profiles.
With the exception of the best affordable minimum coverage category, all values indicate typical premiums for full coverage insurance with the given limits. The following are the total coverage limits:
- $100,000 liability for bodily harm per person
- $300,000 liability for bodily injuries per accident
- $100,000 property damage liability
- Comprehensive and collision coverage are included with a $1,000 deductible.
