Methodology

MoneyGeek gathered quotes and information from insurance companies in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to evaluate and select the best insurers in the city. Our research was based on scores from industry leaders AM Best, J.D. Power and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

Each category is scaled to five points, and the overall score is scaled to 100 points to generate our composite MoneyGeek score. For Tulsa and all other cities where we rate the best car insurance, we adjusted the weightings for each category below as listed:

  • Affordability (70%): MoneyGeek compared quotes from insurers in Tulsa to rank providers according to the cost of their policies. If a provider offered the cheapest rate in the city, it earned a perfect five out of five.
  • Customer satisfaction and claims satisfaction (20%): MoneyGeek consulted scores from J.D. Power surveys to measure customer satisfaction with each insurance provider on the basis of service and claims. Each category was weighted at 10%.
  • Financial stability (10%): MoneyGeek used AM Best ratings, which determine an insurance company’s ability to fulfill financial obligations.

To find the overall affordability score of each insurance company, MoneyGeek examined various driver profiles, considering factors like age, driving record and coverage levels. We filtered results to reflect each driver profile and listed which insurance companies fit their needs. For example, to find the best insurer for young drivers, MoneyGeek used a sample profile of an 18-year-old male with a clean driving record.

Based on MoneyGeek’s methodology, auto insurance premiums reflect costs for a full coverage policy with the following limits:

  • $100,000 bodily injury liability per person
  • $300,000 bodily injury liability per accident
  • $100,000 property damage liability
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

MoneyGeek’s car insurance methodology goes into more detail about how and where we obtain information for our comparisons and scoring.
