Methodology

MoneyGeek scored car insurance companies based on quotes collected from providers in Kansas City and evaluations made by industry leaders: J.D. Power, AM Best and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

To determine the best car insurance in Kansas City, Missouri, for different driver profiles, MoneyGeek applied the following weightings to each assessment category:

  • Affordability (70%): MoneyGeek collected average premiums from insurers in Kansas City and ranked them according to the cost of their policies. The provider offering the cheapest rate in the city could receive a perfect score of five.
  • Customer and claims satisfaction (20%): MoneyGeek examined surveys from J.D. Power to measure customer satisfaction with each insurance provider for service and claims. Each sub-category was weighted at 10%.
  • Financial stability (10%): MoneyGeek used AM Best ratings to estimate an insurance company’s ability to fulfill financial obligations despite economic variability.

MoneyGeek scaled each category's score to five points and then scaled the overall score to 100 points. We calculated the overall affordability score using numerous factors — including age, driving record and coverage levels — changed as necessary to focus on specific driver profiles.

  • $300,000 bodily injury liability per accident
  • $100,000 property damage liability
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible
