Methodology

MoneyGeek collected data and information from insurance companies in Wichita, Kansas, to review and choose the best insurers in the city. Our research was based on scores from industry leaders such as AM Best, J.D. Power and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

Every category is scaled to five points, and the composite MoneyGeek score is scaled to 100 points. We also used the following weighted categories to generate the composite score:

  • Affordability (70%): MoneyGeek identified and compared quotes from insurance providers in Wichita to rank these insurers according to the cost of their policies. The cheapest car insurance provider in the city earned a perfect five out of five.
  • Customer satisfaction and claims satisfaction (20%): MoneyGeek consulted scores from J.D. Power surveys to gauge customer satisfaction with every insurance provider based on service and claims. Each category was weighted equally at 10%.
  • Financial stability (10%): MoneyGeek used AM Best ratings which determined the insurance company’s ability to fulfill its financial obligations.

To find the overall affordability score of each insurance company, MoneyGeek checked different driver profiles considering various factors such as age, driving record and coverage levels. We processed results to fit each driver's profile and listed which insurance companies suit their needs. For example, to find the best car insurer for young drivers, MoneyGeek used a sample profile of an 18-year-old male with a clean driving record.

Based on MoneyGeek’s methodology, car insurance premiums show costs for a full coverage policy with the following limits:

  • $100,000 bodily injury liability per person
  • $300,000 bodily injury liability per accident
  • $100,000 property damage liability.
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible
