Methodology

MoneyGeek scored car insurance providers in Spokane based on average quotes and data collected from industry leaders: AM Best, J.D. Power and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).

To establish the best insurer across different driving backgrounds, MoneyGeek utilized a ranking system with each category featuring a maximum of five points and the overall score determined out of 100 points. The weightings for each category were as listed below:

  • Affordability (70%): MoneyGeek compared average rates from insurance providers in Spokane and ranked them based on the policy costs. The cheapest provider could earn the highest score of five.
  • Financial stability (10%): MoneyGeek determined the ability of each insurer to fulfill its financial obligations during an economic crisis using AM Best scores.
  • Customer satisfaction and claims satisfaction (20%): MoneyGeek analyzed J.D. Power's customer satisfaction surveys to determine insurance companies’ customer service and claims ratings. Each of the two categories weighted 10%.

To determine the overall affordability rating of the insurers across different profiles, MoneyGeek considered various factors, including the coverage amount, driving record and age of the driver. For example, average rates for young drivers were obtained using an 18-year-old male driver with a clean driving record.

The full coverage policy limits included:

  • $100,000 bodily injury liability per person
  • $300,000 bodily injury liability per accident
  • $100,000 property damage liability
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

Our methodology contains more information about the data collection, comparison and ranking process.
