Methodology

MoneyGeek gathered rates and information from insurance firms in Corpus Christi, Texas, to select the city's best insurers. We used data from AM Best, J.D. Power and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) for our study.

To calculate our MoneyGeek composite score, we scale each category to five points and the total score to 100 points. We weighted each category as follows:

  • Affordability (70%): MoneyGeek obtained quotes from Corpus Christi insurers and ranked providers based on their policy prices. A supplier received a perfect five out of five if it had the lowest rate in the city.
  • Customer and claims satisfaction (20%): MoneyGeek used J.D. Power survey results to determine consumer satisfaction with each insurance provider's service and claims. We weighted each category 10%.
  • Financial stability (10%): MoneyGeek used AM Best ratings, which measure an insurance company's capacity to meet financial obligations.

MoneyGeek studied several driver profiles, taking into account age, driving record and coverage levels to determine each insurance company's overall cost score. We sorted the results by driver profile and listed the insurance firms that best matched their needs. For example, we utilized a profile of an 18-year-old male with a clean driving record to determine the best insurance for young drivers.

Quotes for full coverage policies include the following limits:

  • $100,000 bodily injury liability per person
  • $300,000 bodily injury liability per accident
  • $100,000 property damage liability
  • Comprehensive and collision coverage with a $1,000 deductible

MoneyGeek's car insurance methodology delves deeper into how and where we get data for our comparisons and scores.
