Chief Underwriting Officer - Small Business (The Hartford)
Pete Hill is the Small Business Chief Underwriting Officer at The Hartford. He is responsible for the strategic vision and execution of the underwriting organization. This includes appetite, automated underwriting, quality, training, consolidations, day to day field underwriting execution, and leading underwriting and distribution for E&S binding.
Pete has been with The Hartford since 2010, with deep underwriting experience, including 7 years as an underwriter and underwriting leader in their Charlotte office; leading key markets in the Southeast and Midwest. Following that, he moved to Hartford, CT and has spent the past 9 years in various Small Business underwriting and product roles. He led Small Business’ first efforts to transform and streamline new business quoting and was instrumental in developing underwriting capabilities that continue to set the industry standard for speed, ease, and accuracy at acquisition.
Prior to becoming CUO, Pete served as VP, Small Business Product Management, responsible for their nearly $3B Spectrum line of business. In this role he developed and executed strategies that drove consistent Spectrum profit and growth through challenging market conditions and led the development and launch of the latest version of Next Gen Spectrum.
Education: MBA from the University of North Carolina | Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Syracuse University
